Mornington Peninsula Human Rights Group

Promoting understanding of, and respect for, human rights

Amnesty film night

Date: 12 Apr 2013

Amnesty International, Mornington Peninsula Group, is holding a film night with guest speaker.

OUR GENERATION is a powerful and upfront documentary on the Australian Aboriginal struggle for their land, culture and freedom. The film takes a historical journey through Australia’s indigenous relations, from the landing of Captain Cook until today. It looks at the ongoing paternalism of successive governments, including current policies, with a strong critical focus of the Northern Territory Intervention. The film is driven by the remote Yolngu people of Northeast Arnhem Land, and includes the voices of national indigenous leaders, historians and human rights activists. Most importantly, the film opens up dialogue on how Australia can move forward, with true dignity and respect for its First Peoples.

It will be at Mornington Library at 7.00pm  on Friday 12 April. A light supper is provided.
